Which XBOX 360 system is better for a family?

I am debating whether to get an XBox 360 for about $350, with the large hard-drive and backwards compatible, or go for the cheaper XBox 360 arcade for about $280. What is the larger hard drive really good for? I have no interest in playing on-line or downloading. I would like to play high graphic games like Bioshock and such, but HD is not a consideration. Are there any other advantages to the full system?
